Xixim Bamboo Furniture was a project to build high quality bamboo furniture in the jungles of the Yucatan, Mexico employing local Mayan craftsmen. The factory was in the middle of a bamboo plantation within a restored 16-century hacienda.
I designed numerous pieces including chairs & tables. I constructed the originals to be reproduced by a trained crew of artisans. Finished pieces were sold in Mexico & exported to the U.S.
Living and working in such an environment while producing high quality furniture was challenging. The experience was life changing on many levels, all of which I feel were positive.
